Westside Learning Collective for VELA

Our first site visit for VELA was Westside Learning Collective, in Fort Worth, TX. WLC is a secular, progressive drop off program for homeschool families to help develop kids’ social emotional skills, and every day there is unpredictable by design.

After after a quick morning group activity, kids spend the rest of the day doing whatever they please, whether it be cooking, playing games, climbing trees, making crafts, playing music, or having epic dance parties!

Capturing kids with no schedule but their own was definitely a challenge to film! We spent two days chasing them around inside and outside the building. Big thanks to AC Miguel Martinez and field producer Janie Griffith for the help on this one and for snapping some BTS stills.

Thanks so much to co-founders Cara Kuhl & Ellis Maxwell for sharing their story!
