Making a Difference with Carrying Hope

I don’t always get to do work that truly makes a difference and has a substantive impact on the lives of others, but this spring I had the chance to work on a project exactly like that.

I had the privilege of meeting the folks from Carrying, an Austin based nonprofit that creates and distributes Hope Packs, backpacks that contain everything a foster child needs the first 48 hours in their new home. Over the course a several days, I filmed with the founders, board members, partners, and foster families to create a video for their annual fundraising gala. Not only was the gala a great success, but meeting all these passionate, loving people was an inspiring experience I’m still thinking about.

Fun fact: the closing section of the video includes cameos from my daughter and others, as it’s unsafe to feature kids who are currently in the foster care system. My nephew’s coincidentally timed birthday party made for a perfect opportunity to capture the b-roll I needed.
